Tvarditsa Mountains

Tvarditsa lies at the base of the Balkan Mountains and the valley that runs through to Elena.

With the highest point being at Chumerna, only 22 kilometres from Tvarditsa, this makes Chumerna a very car journey for the skiing.

In-between Tvarditsa and Chumerna, you will find lots of hidden gems, such as the waterfalls, bar-b-que areas, caves and much more.

These areas are ideal for hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and even slack lining, plus many other past times.

Today the medieval walled town of Tvarditsa, known as "Gradishteto" reserved significant parts of the fortress walls, reaching a height of 5 meters.

It encloses an area of 25,000 square meters. In front of the east wall of the fortress, are ruins of a medieval church, with preserved walls up to 1.5 meters, and traces of frescoes(not authenticated).

Perhaps this is the "St.. Petka "(St. Paraskeva), which is mentioned in the stories about the protection of the fortress, and whose successor was later built, and existing today, the urban church" St. Petka ".
